Today, Congressman Tom Suozzi (D-Long Island, Queens) led 22 Members of Congress from the states most affected in an urgent call to authorize the North Atlantic Rail Corporation (NARC) to receive federal funds to design, build, and oversee a high-speed rail (HSR) project across the Northeast. The first of its kind, the bold and forward-thinking project would increase frequency and reliability of travel across the region, while fueling economic growth, creating thousands of jobs for decades to come, and reducing carbon emissions.

With summer approaching, Congressman Tom Suozzi, co-chair of the Long Island Sound Caucus and a committed environmentalist, and EPA officials announced that almost 50 million pounds of nitrogen have been removed from the sewage treatment effluent each year in the Long Island Sound.  As Mayor of Glen Cove in the late 1990s, Suozzi led Glen Cove as the first city on Long Island to cut nitrogen effluent by 50%.

Today, Congressman Tom Suozzi (D-NY) and Congressman Adriano Espaillat (D-NY), with the help of the Congressional Black Caucus, introduced The Harlem Hellfighters Congressional Gold Medal Act, legislation to award a Congressional Gold Medal to the 369th Infantry Regiment, commonly known as the “Harlem Hellfighters.” Through the help of Congressional Black Caucus Chairwoman, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty, and Congressman Steve Horsford, the legislation has received overwhelming bipartisan support, garnering more than 290 cosponsors prior to formal introduction.

Today, Congressman Tom Suozzi (D-NY) and Congressman Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) introduced The Family Fun Act, legislation which would expand eligibility for the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Shutter Venue Operators Grant (SVOG) program to include amusement parks and other community businesses.

Today, Representatives Tom Suozzi (D-NY), Steven Horsford (D-NV), Don Beyer (D-VA), Brad Schneider (D-IL), and Gwen Moore (D-WI) introduced legislation that would increase the amount of the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) to help disadvantaged groups who have been hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Occupations hit the hardest with prolonged unemployment during the COVID-19 pandemic overlap considerably with those most helped by WOTC, including young workers, women, lower-skill workers, and minorities.

Today, Congressman Tom Suozzi (D-Long Island, Queens), the Vice-Chair of the Problem Solvers Caucus, helped deliver 35 votes from Republicans to support the creation of a bipartisan commission to investigate the January 6th Capitol Attacks and the influencing factors that provoked the attacks. Before the Problem Solvers Caucus announced their support for the commission, news reports indicated that the vote to form the commission may have been along party lines.

Today, Congressman Tom Suozzi (D – Long Island, Queens) announced the winner and runners-up of the 2021 Congressional Art Competition, a nation-wide high school art competition sponsored by the Congressional Institute. The annual competition was open to all high school students living in New York's Third Congressional District. The theme for this year’s competition was: “Hope is a Beautiful Thing: How the beauty of our home, in New York’s 3rd Congressional District, gave you hope to get through the past year.”

May 17, 2021

 Today, Congressman Tom Suozzi (D-Long Island, Queens) announced that New Yorkers will begin to see monthly payments of the expanded Child Tax Credit (CTC) on July 15th. Eligible families are expected to receive $300 per month for each child under the age of six and up to $250 per month for each child six and above. To qualify, you only need to file your taxes by May 17th.
