Rep. Suozzi Announces Parents of Hostage Omer Neutra as State of the Union Guests

March 6, 2024

Washington, DC - Today, Congressman Tom Suozzi (D - Long Island, Queens) announced that Ronen and Orna Neutra, the parents of American hostage Omer Neutra and Plainview residents, will be his guests tomorrow at President Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address.

Ronen, Orna, and Omer’s brother, Daniel, along with other family members of some of the hostages held in Gaza, will also attend the State of the Union Address.

“It’s been five months since Hamas's brutal attack on Israel. Long Island, Queens, and America must not forget that one of our neighbors is being held hostage. Everything possible must be done to get all of the hostages swiftly and safely home,” said Suozzi. “I will do everything I can to save and protect Omer Neutra and support his family. This is not a partisan issue; it’s an American one,” Suozzi added.

“This has to stay in front of politicians; It has to stay in front of the media, and it has to stay in front of the public,” Ronen Neutra said. “This is one of the biggest stages of the year. We are hopeful that President Biden will mention us and our dear ones in his speech, and I know he cares deeply about the situation.”

Suozzi met with constituents Ronen and Orna Neutra from Plainview in Tel Aviv in December. The Neutra’s son, Omer, an IDF tank commander, was serving near the Gaza border when he was taken hostage during the surprise attack on October 7. Omer joined the Israeli Army after graduating from The Solomon Schechter School of Long Island.

Suozzi’s solidarity trip to Israel in December afforded him an opportunity to learn first-hand, on the ground, exactly what is happening in Israel.
