Today, Congressman Suozzi (D-Long Island, Queens) issued the following statement on the consent decree announced by the New York State DEC regarding the Navy Grumman Plume:

“This is a big victory for the people of Bethpage and for all of the people south of Bethpage that have been threatened by this plume for decades.  I will continue to work with Bethpage and the surrounding water districts to ensure that the responsible parties follow through and that the funding is in place so they can continue to provide safe drinking water to all residents.”

Congressman Tom Suozzi (D – Long Island, Queens) has announced that the Local Journalism Sustainability Act has been included in the House Ways and Means Committee’s budget reconciliation mark up. The bipartisan legislation, of which Suozzi was an original cosponsor when it was reintroduced in the House in July, would help bolster local media outlets with temporary tax credits for publishers employing and hiring local journalists.

Today, for the first time, Congressman Tom Suozzi (D-New York), met with the Wali family, who were recently reunited on American soil. Mr. Wali, who lived in Suozzi’s district, had sought Suozzi’s assistance to help evacuate his wife and 3 children from Kabul, Afghanistan. The evacuation was dramatic, involving hundreds of calls, texts, WhatsApp messages, and emails at all hours of the day and night, over the course of 12 days.
