Today, for the first time, Congressman Tom Suozzi (D-New York), met with the Wali family, who were recently reunited on American soil. Mr. Wali, who lived in Suozzi’s district, had sought Suozzi’s assistance to help evacuate his wife and 3 children from Kabul, Afghanistan. The evacuation was dramatic, involving hundreds of calls, texts, WhatsApp messages, and emails at all hours of the day and night, over the course of 12 days.

With the House Ways and Means Committee set to advance the tax portion of the budget reconciliation package this week, Congressman Tom Suozzi (D-Long Island, Queens) announced that he still stands by his original call that he will not vote for any changes to the tax code unless the State and Local Tax Deduction (SALT) is restored.

WASHINGTON, DC – In advance of a House Ways and Means markup on the budget reconciliation package, Representatives Tom Suozzi, Earl Blumenauer, Ron Kind, Steven Horsford, Dwight Evans, Dan Kildee, Jimmy Panetta, Don Beyer, and Nanette Barragan introduced legislation, supported by every major environmental organization and labor, that would allow solar companies to qualify for a full value Production Tax Credit (PTC), which is currently only available for wind and geothermal energy.

Congressman Tom Suozzi (D-Long Island, Queens) released the following statement:

“Earlier today, the last US military planes left Afghanistan. While our military phase in Afghanistan has ended, our diplomatic phase will continue. My office has helped safely evacuate 35 people from Afghanistan and will continue to work with the State Department on safely evacuating additional families.  I praise the hard work and bravery of the men and women serving in our military who helped safely evacuate over 123,000 people in the last two weeks under difficult conditions.”

Today, Congressman Tom Suozzi (D – Long Island, Queens) attended a White House signing ceremony in the Oval Office as President Joseph R. Biden signed Suozzi’s legislation to award the Harlem Hellfighters a long-overdue Congressional Gold Medal.

Today, at the 369th Infantry Regiment in Harlem, New York, Congressman Tom Suozzi stood with U.S. Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, Congressman Adriano Espaillat, state and local elected officials, and descendants of the Harlem Hellfighters to announce that legislation awarding the Harlem Hellfighters the Congressional Gold Medal is on its way to President Joe Biden’s desk to be signed into law.

Today, Congressman Tom Suozzi (D - Long Island, Queens) who, after years of advocating for the removal of derelict buildings at the Northport campus, met with Dr. Antonio Sánchez, the Executive Director of the Northport VA Medical Center, for an update and inspection on the progress of the demolition. Today, Congressman Tom Suozzi (D-Long Island, Queens) released the following statement after U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand helped pass Suozzi’s Harlem Hellfighters Congressional Gold Medal Act to award the Congressional Gold Medal to the 369th Infantry Regiment, commonly known as the Harlem Hellfighters, a black infantry regiment of the New York National Guard that fought in WWI who never received formal recognition from the Federal government for their service.
