Washington, DC - Congressman Tom Suozzi (D - Long Island, Queens), who was nicknamed "Mr. Salt" by Crain's New York Business for "his single-minded devotion to the issue," has again been named a Co-Chair of the House SALT Caucus. SALT stands for the state and local tax deduction. The group is dedicated to relief from the $10,000 limit on the federal deduction for state and local taxes that was passed in 2017.
Today, as a result of his relentless efforts to right the wrong when Republicans imposed a $10,000 cap on the state and local tax (SALT) deduction, Congressman Tom Suozzi (D – Long Island, Queens) announced that the United States House of Representatives has successfully passed much-needed relief to middle-class families in New York. In the House, Suozzi was one of the lead negotiators who struck the deal to increase the SALT cap to $80,000. New York State was one of the hardest hit from the $10,000 SALT cap. Today, Congressman Tom Suozzi (D-NY) announced that 108 Members of Congress have signed onto his letter calling on Speaker Pelosi to keep the $4,500 tax credit for union-built electric vehicles (EV) in the Build Back Better Act when it moves to the House floor.
