Welcomes convoy of World War 2 Vehicles at the Long Island National Ceremony; honors war dead during virtual and socially distant ceremonies

This Memorial Day weekend, Congressman Tom Suozzi (D-Long Island, Queens) took part in several events, amid Coronavirus, to honor our nations veterans and war dead.

“This Memorial Day has been very different, but the purpose was the same - to remember and honor those veterans that made the ultimate sacrifice. During these times of darkness and uncertainty, we need to look no further for inspiration than the honored war dead that we remember today,” said Suozzi. “Our nation owes an enormous debt to the men and women who fell in battle defending our freedoms over the many generations,”

On Sunday, Suozzi spoke at a ceremony held at the Long Island National Cemetery in Pinelawn, where he welcomed an armored column from the Museum of American Armor. The vehicles traveled in a procession from the museum in Plainview to the cemetery. The parade, which is normally attended by thousands, was only open to limited Museum staff and participants such as Suozzi, County Executive Laura Curran, and other local officials.

On Monday, Suozzi and other officials joined a virtual ceremony hosted by New York State Senator John Liu. They were joined by a number of veterans, the Little Neck Douglaston parade committee and community members. Later he met with the Mayor of Glen Cove, Tim Tenke, and local veterans’ group for a socially distanced ceremony at Glen Cove City Hall. He then joined several high school students from Long Island Laboring Against COVID-19 to lay a wreath at monument park. Suozzi also worked with these students on Tuesday to donate several thousand PPE to a senior center in Glen Cove.
